Notable Players to Miss the 2026 U.S. Open Cut
These guys are heading home early

After 36 holes, the 2026 U.S. Open field has been cut down from 155 players to the top 60 and ties. Here’s a list of the notable names who won’t have to deal with the Southampton traffic this weekend (that’s a silver lining, right?).
Bryson DeChambeau (5 over)
DeChambeau was in prime position after a Thursday 70 but made two doubles on his Friday front nine to miss the cut for the third time in his last four major starts.
Viktor Hovland (5 over)
Hovland just couldn’t stay out of trouble at Shinnecock Hills, and a second round 69 wasn’t enough to overcome a birdie-free 76 on Thursday.
Patrick Reed (5 over)
A trendy pick entering the week, Reed was at the tail end of the field in both Strokes Gained: Off the Tee and Putting, making just three birdies in the difficult early-late wave.
Jon Rahm (6 over)
The majority of players on this list missed the cut from what turned out to be the easy side of the draw, but Rahm might be the most egregious. After a 68 on Thursday, the Spaniard then played Nos. 12-16 at 6 over on Friday to end his championship early and squander yet another major in his prime.

Patrick Cantlay (6 over)
Notable? Sure, I guess. Suprise? Not at all. Until Cantlay shows up and actually contends at a major again, he’s just another guy.
J.J. Spaun (8 over)
Spaun did well to bounce back with a 1-over 71 on Friday following a first round 77, but it wasn’t enough to continue his title defense.
Brooks Koepka (10 over)
The two-time U.S. Open champion had an outside shot at the weekend on the first tee on Friday at 3 over, but quickly removed himself from consideration with six birdies on his front nine.
