Ball Flight Data From the Champion Golfer of the Year
Some insights on Scottie Scheffler's week at Royal Portrush

It isn’t every day that one of the best ball-strikers of all time takes down a Claret Jug on a true links golf course. Thanks to the good people at Toptracer, who graciously accommodated another data request, here are a few interesting datapoints on how Scottie Scheffler plodded his way to a victory around Royal Portrush at the 2025 Open Championship:
Out of 52 tee shots on par 4s and 5s fully captured by Toptracer, Scottie Scheffler hit 10 with right-to-left curve. He didn’t hit a single tee shot with right-to-left curve during Friday’s round. He hit only one tee shot with right-to-left curve during Sunday’s round, his drive on No. 7, which curved 2.5 yards to the left. Exactly half of his tee shots faded between 10 and 30 yards.

He hit nine tee shots that stayed below a 75-foot apex height and seven tee shots that apexed over 120 feet
A few Scheffler metrics across all measured par 4s and par 5s:
- Average ball speed: 175.8 mph
- Average apex height: 97.5 ft
- Average carry distance: 275.3 yards
- Average curve: 17 feet left-to right
The best player since Tiger has slightly above-average ball speed and predominantly plays a left-to-right ball flight. He’s capable of shaping the ball both ways and changing his trajectories; he just didn’t have to do as much of that this week as he would’ve needed to in windier conditions.Nonetheless, insightful numbers to enter into the historical record!
