Town and Country Club

Founded in the 1880s, Town and Country Club boasts the title of Minnesota’s first golf club. And while the club has a long history, it isn’t necessarily a cohesive one. The design and club itself have undergone a series of changes over the years. Regardless, its modern-day presentation is approachable and fun.

Located in St. Paul, Minnesota, just east of the Mississippi River, T&CC occupies a wild piece of ground that was undoubtedly carved by the Big Muddy many thousands of years ago. It sits on a high ridge that provides views of the river and Twin Cities below, a dramatic place on which to spend a day.

At Town and Country Club, you won’t find a world top-100 design. And the club isn’t attempting to be one. Instead, it’s a course that wants to show off its best assets: its land and culture. The golf course is incredibly fun, with a slew of memorable shots, dramatic elevation changes, and an unconventional scorecard. The back nine is particularly eye-popping with just two par 4s and three consecutive par 5s. What it lacks in conventionality, T&CC more than makes up for in memorability.

Take Note…

A New No. 5. One of the most striking holes on the course, the par-4 fifth is a new creation from Jeff Mingay. While the corridor remains the same as the old hole, the punchbowl green and eye-popping approach shot are brand new.

Come for the golf, stay for the sledding. The course’s massive ridge not only makes for an interesting golf feature, but it’s a tremendous sled hill in the wintertime. Whether it’s the fairway on No. 9 or sliding across Nos. 17 and 10, you have options.

‍Brewery Town. If you’re a beer lover, you have no shortage of options after a visit to T&CC. More than a dozen breweries are within 10 minutes of the club, so you can make sure to have a proper post-golf cheers.
