Fried Egg Golf Events 101

Fried Egg Golf Events began in 2019 as a way to bring golf fans together from around the country for rounds of golf at architecturally interesting courses. We started modestly with two events that year, and now we run a year-long schedule with more than a dozen events open to the public and additional opportunities for Fried Egg Golf Club members.

If you are new to Fried Egg Golf, our event series, or are interested in attending your first event this year, here’s a rundown of how they work.

Who Can Attend

Our events are bucketed into two experiences: Fried Egg Golf Events and FEGC member-exclusive opportunities. Our one-day events are open for anyone to attend, no matter if you’ve been a longtime Fried Egg follower or you are attending for the first time with a friend. On our schedule, you’ll see badges for each event. The orange events are FEGC member-exclusive opportunities, and every other event is open to anyone interested. FEGC members do have a 24-hour head start on registration. 

Format and What is Included

While some events do vary, the majority of our one-day events are “Muirfield Days,” 36-hole experiences that feature a best-ball round in the morning and an alternate-shot round in the afternoon. This format is based on the tradition at Muirfield in Scotland, although their day involves a very heavy lunch with libations. At a Fried Egg Golf Event, you’ll be treated to all meals for the day, but the turnaround at lunch is a bit quicker than what you’d find with The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers. Also included in your registration is a tee gift, prizing, and other add-ons from Fried Egg and our partners.

By no means is it required to participate in the actual scoring element of our events. While you are required to play the event’s format, you are welcome to just come and enjoy the day if you so please. We want people to have fun first and foremost. 

And yes, we highly encourage singles to attend! We employ a team format to get people invested in meeting others and playing a team game. Between 30-40% of each field will be singles we’ve paired up with another like-minded golfer, many of whom become golf-buddies afterwards.

Course Setup

We highly encourage all golfers of all skill levels to attend, including men, women, seniors, and kids. We’ll have two sets of tees on the day of the event, one set up between 6,400-6,500 yards and one set up under 6,000 yards. If you opt out of the scoring portion of the event, you are welcome to play from whatever set of tees you please. And if you’re a highly skilled golfer and want to move back, you’re welcome to do that as well. Just keep up the pace of play. 

Registration

Registration dates and times for both the public and FEGC members will be posted on each event’s page. Full details are typically available two weeks prior to the event. 

FEGC members receive a 24-hour head start on public registration for one-day events. During this early-registration period, members may sign up for up to two spots. For most events, the other spot does not have to be an FEGC member. There are certain small trips which do require all participants to be members so please look at each event page for full details.

Pre-Tournament

Once you are registered, you can expect to receive routine communications from us. We’ll contact you about three months, six weeks, two weeks, and one week ahead of each event, with some of our bigger trips including even more communications. We want to make sure you’re prepared ahead of time, but not overly bombarded with email. There will also be a group chat set up for each event, where you can talk amongst yourselves and possibly set up additional golf for those traveling in.

On-Site Experience

Our events are a full-day operation. You’ll show up in the early morning to check in and grab your tee gift. Then you’ll have access to the practice facilities and breakfast. The golf will take place in the form of two shotguns with lunch in between, and we’ll gather at the end of the day for some hors d’oeuvres and drinks.

Bottom Line

Fried Egg Golf Events are meant to be whatever you want them to be. If you want to grind your face off and shoot a career best, you are welcome to do so as long as you play quickly. If you want to come and just enjoy the day and meet new people, you’re welcome to do that, as well. We want golfers to get together, have fun, and experience great architecture. Beyond that, the world of Fried Egg Golf Events is truly your oyster. Make it your own and enjoy the ride.
