A Megha Win for Ganne

Megha Ganne finally has her signature amateur victory.

The rising senior at Stanford has dealt with plenty of injuries and adversity over the years – like having to withdraw last minute from last year’s U.S. Women’s Amateur with food poisoning – but after 36 holes of stroke play and six matches at Bandon Dunes, Ganne was the last player standing on the Oregon coastline. Ganne defeated Brooke Biermann, 4 and 3, in the 36-hole final match of the 2025 U.S. Women’s Amateur to take home the trophy in her seventh, and likely final, appearance in the championship. A 2025 Michigan State graduate competing in her final amateur competition, Biermann will enter LPGA Q-School later this fall.

Ganne was four down with seven holes to play in her semifinal match, but battled back to win in 19 holes to punch her ticket to the final. Biermann’s semifinal bout also went 19 holes, making for the third time in the championship’s 125-year history that both semifinal matches went to extra holes.

Amateur championships hosted at resort courses don’t often produce particularly large or loud crowds, and the atmosphere throughout Sunday’s final was rather reserved given what was at stake. That said, Bandon Dunes made for both a solid test for the players all week and a great watch for fans on site and at home.
