1. The debut of Fields Ranch East in the LPGA major, seemed to get a lot of criticism. Just looking at the golf course architecture and how the players played the course, do you think the negative critiques were warranted or overdone? What, if any, changes would you make to the course to make it better for the PGA Championship in 2027? 2. Henry Fownes never built a golf course, then goes to to Scotland to study the courses. He comes back and builds Oakmont Country Club. Hugh Wilson never built a golf course, then goes to Scotland to study the courses. He comes back and builds Merion. Is tons of experience needed to create a world class golf course?

While I understand the historical relevance of traditional media in golf, I feel as though the world is moving away from it. I also think Tiger had a large effect on things, with his more frosty, “give them nothing” attitude in interviews disseminating to the next generation. That’s not to say EVERY new player is a wet blanket in interviews, but I think more of these guys see media as a chore rather than an opportunity, especially if many of them feel they could have greater reach, and more importantly, control of the narrative through their own channels (instagram, Twitter, and of course the Xander App…). Personally speaking, the only golf interviews I find myself watching / listening to are through podcasts or quotes in books. Maybe it’s due to the “give them nothing” attitude I mentioned above, but I just don’t think you get a ton out of guys when they’re in “tournament mode”. If you were to interview me after I just worked a full 10+ hour day, I’d probably also give you a hell of a lot less than if it happened on a day off and in a comfortable environment.Either way, will be interesting to see how this relationships evolves, especially with the recent Rory sentiments and such.

I'd be interested in knowing where the original clubhouse was as well. I doubt the original routing would have started with the boomerang green but you never know. Could have potentially been between current Nos. 1 and 2? Would be pretty close to Craig's porch there too.Definitely agree that you shouldn't skip the course when you visit. It's a fun lap

Question for Garrett and Portland, OR locals; I'm going to be in Portland for work for about a week in mid-July. I'd like to do a little golfing around PDX during the week before I head to Gearhart for the weekend. I see articles on this website about Lake Oswego and Forest Hills, any other local public courses that are highly recommended/highly discouraged?

Really well done.

A great piece, thank you Brett. When thinking about the other end of the diverse spectrum, I am reminded of an article I saw recently on Cosmos Links Country Club in South Korea; a completely treeless course built on 4 adjacent strips of fairway with 360 pot bunkers, 20 per hole. I don’t think it can get much less diverse than that. I think it’s intriguing enough as a concept to play once, but I struggle to see a desire to play it more than that. While the ownership might be going for more of a novel, hope a million people play it once, rather than a devout group of frequent players, it will be interesting to see if this model works.

Which of the upcoming U.S. Open/PGA/Open Championship venues are the most and least architecturally interesting and why?

Golf courses that host pro events are always making holes longer. Is there a hole we see the pros play that would be better if we shortened it? Let’s say they also reduced the par to hopefully make it harder for scoring. Like a par 5or long 4 that would be really fun short/driveable 4, or any hole that has a green complex that would be fun as a par 3.

I don't usually enjoy sports media coverage, with the exception of the Fried Egg Golf team of course, as I believe it's moving more towards the style of Skip Bayless and Stephen A Smith. In the few negative cases of athlete-press interaction I've seen, I could see why the athletes are disappointed. I prefer more of the NBA on TNT media coverage and their interactions with players.
