I’m at UM often as well, I have a Champions Pass. Played Stoatin Brae for the first time last month. Really nice course! Definitely recommend.

Hey. I'm in SE Michigan as well, 36, 1 kid, no interest in fighting. I really enjoy golfing at new courses in Michigan. I frequent UM blue course. For Michigan, I want to play Stoatin Brae and some courses around Grand Rapids next season.

Everyone should read Shadow of the Wind and the following books from Zafon. Some magical realism set in post-WWII Barcelona. If you are ever going to Barcelona should absolute read before you go

Sure thing! Silvies is very remote. You should definitely stay on site, and they have a variety of options, including cabins, hotel rooms, etc... The next nearest hotel is about 45 minutes away. It has a ton of activities to do outside of golf, so you will never be bored. Food is excellent as well. As for the golf, all the courses are really fun. The reversible 18 hole course is great in both directions and since the route changes each day, it's not tedious. The par 3 course is also enjoyable, and that is where you can use the goat caddies. Finally, there is a 7 hole challenge course that is full-blown backcountry golf. It is as much a hike as it is golf, and the holes are wacky but thrilling. And, the golf courses are always very open. It is easy to feel like the only people on the golf course. Happy to provide any further info on any of these trips as well.

Podcast recommendation, not golf edition: Seth Meyers and the Lonely Island. They break down all the digital shorts in chronological order. #QuaidArmy

Great to know about The Championship Experience!! sounds like a great option and super easy to get to from seatac. Can you tell me a bit about your Silvies experience?? I presume you stay onsite and thats basically the only thing there? It looks really beautiful from the NLU video covering it a few years ago. Bend is a really really great option too!

Chambers Bay, in conjunction with two other great area courses (The Home Course and Gold Mountain) offer what's called "The Championship Experience." Comes with lodging for two nights in a Tacoma hotel too. It'd be easy to add on additional golf from there as well. I cannot recommend Silvies enough, but it is a 5+ hour drive from Portland or a 3 hour drive from Bend. Bend has a plethora of courses that are worth playing, as well as every other activity you could hope for. The courses worth playing in and around Bend also include a wide variety, from the high end and pricey to the affordable and great value.

I'm also a Gopher. My wife and I are both alumni (I'm a 2016 grad and she's a 2017 grad), and we both bleed maroon & gold. I love PJ, think he's great for the program. Indiana has me thinking "why not us?" but I'm not willing to kick PJ to the curb for the chance of hiring the next Curt Cignetti, because I think it is much more likely that we end up with another Tim Brewster. In this new B1G, if we go bowling every year and win at least one of Wisconsin and Iowa, I'm happy enough.

The Old Course
November 4, 2025
I don't know for sure, but I'd imagine the Old Course crew will do any and all of the work, as they do with their regular winter works programs. These guys were always pretty good with the contouring and tie-ins back when I was a turf student nearby, and I'm pretty sure they did everything with the Hawtree/Dawson work the last go-round, which was much more aggressive than this proposal (and problematic IMO). The positioning of the new bunkers in the diagrams also seems to be natural-looking for a bunker, which will help. Aesthetically, it could all be all right. Architecturally and philosophically... those are completely different topics...
