TFE Events have become some of my favorite days of the year. They require a ton of upfront work and plenty of running around the day of, but I’ll never complain about being around a good group of people on a great golf course.
We’ve done a couple dozen of these events to date and decided it’s time we start documenting them here in Club TFE. Many of you were at the Steamshovel and it’s time we provide some proper notes on the event and the weekend itself. Add any and all comments/memories you have in the comment section below!
Some things that will stick with me…
We’ve done it for years now, but I’ll never get over just how many Wisconsinites take part in the ritual of the Friday Fish Fry. It felt like all of Green Lake rolled through Lawsonia on Friday, including half the Steamshovel field. The night even led to a Twitter DM from Matt Cash and Michael “Mad Dog” Madsen who requested they be paired with Michael Bolan and Paul Reilly after sharing a drink at the bar. Drink at Lawsonia bar = make new friends.
While the TFE team was playing the course on Friday, someone from the Woodlands Course yelled “Andy, try playing with modern equipment!” Came to learn it was the one and only “Mad Dog.”
Do not get into a driving contest with Steve Schaefer. Guy hasn’t missed a fairway since the turn of the century.
Not only did Kyle Megathlin come all the way from Colorado for the event, he tried sneaking through the day without telling us it was his birthday. Unacceptable. Happy Birthday, Kyle! Big thank you to Drew Gold for ratting out his partner and for using a golf ball with a UPS logo. He knew his audience quite well.
It’s not easy to do the Boomerang-Steamshovel double dip (California -> Wisconsin), but Michael Striegel pulled it off.
I started listing out how many folks were on a Wisconsin golf trip but it turned into a large ordeal. So many of you were coming to or from Sand Valley, Erin Hills, Eagle Springs, etc. and we were happy to be a part of your adventures.
If you ever happen to play with Pat Craig and Matt Fletcher, ask to play an alternate-shot match. I very much enjoyed listening to those two go back and forth.
Seek out Roger Null and Matt Kopsky at the next TFE Event you attend. Those two have stories and knowledge for days.
Kyle Antman, I promise not to call you Toto Wolff next time I see you.
The award for youngest player in the field goes to Tommy Hamming. Kid’s got game!
After a long day of golf, there were about a dozen people left standing that I’ll refer to as “the Goose Blind Crew.” Thank you to all of you for a memorable evening and for introducing me to downtown Green Lake. What a spot.
Shot of the event (that I heard about) – Laura Lohrmann holed out for eagle on the par-4 1st to a very difficult front-left pin!
Low Net Winners: Brett Hughes & Matt Meyer
Low Gross Winners: Ben Strobel & Andrew Denenberg
