Scottie Wins, Jackson Impresses, and Team Europe Truth Serum

1. Scottie Scheffler shows up. Major championships. Signature events. Fall events in Napa. It doesn’t matter the time or place. He’s freakishly competitive and talented. On Sunday at the Procore Championship, he brought the full box of tools and delivered his sixth win of the year.

With some uncertain form on the American side of the roster, Team USA will need Scheffler’s best in just over a week at the Ryder Cup.

2. Jackson Koivun is a stud. Twenty-year-old amateurs aren’t supposed to play with the consistency with which Koivun is currently playing. Following a T-4 at the Procore Championship, he has four straight top 10s on the PGA Tour since July, with a dominant performance at the Walker Cup sprinkled in.

He entered the final round in Napa one shot behind Ben Griffin and one shot ahead of eventual winner Scheffler. That’s high-level golf, regardless of age. Koivun is really good. Really, really good.

3. If you truth serum-ed Team Europe, they might admit to preferring a few options over Rasmus Hojgaard, who auto-qualified for the Ryder Cup. Like Aaron Rai, who finished T-3 at the BMW PGA Championship. Or Harry Hall or Marco Penge, each of whom finished T-13 at Wentworth. Or even vice captain Alex Noren, who won the tournament.

Hojgaard finished T-128 out of 138 golfers and has struggled with consistency all season. He may not be a complete liability at Bethpage, but I wouldn’t expect to see a ton of him outside of Friday’s fourball session.
