Weekend Chat: Why Does Professional Golf Matter?

Your Club TFE comment section for the second weekend of December

Weekend Chat: Why Does Professional Golf Matter?
Weekend Chat: Why Does Professional Golf Matter?

Yeesh, it’s been a busy week in Fried Egg Golf-land. One day I found myself talking to the CEO of the USGA about why people are freaking out about the prospect of losing five yards off the tee, the next I watched a black-letterman-jacket-wearing Jon Rahm announce on Fox News that he had signed a contract with LIV Golf.

The comment section is below. Let it all out.

Club TFE housekeeping

The second wave of 2024 Fried Egg Golf events opens for Club TFE registration on Tuesday, December 12 at 2:00 p.m. ET. All of the info you need is HERE. We’ve got some incredible venues lined up, if we may say so ourselves, and we’d love to see you out there next year.

If you received an email from us yesterday regarding your 2024 Club TFE renewal and have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to members@thefriedegg.com.

It’s Will Knights’s birthday today! Happy birthday, Will.

Also, Club TFE member Rich Morrison, aka my dad, celebrated his birthday yesterday! HBD, Dad.

Okay, okay. This isn’t a birthday post. I’m not going full LIV here.

Your weekly question

The world of professional golf is in disarray, and I believe the sport’s future popularity is in doubt.

If the PGA Tour and LIV Golf and the DP World Tour and the LPGA Tour were to disappear tomorrow, what would we lose? Why, in other words, does pro golf matter?

Thank for you supporting Fried Egg Golf. Please don’t leave us for LIV.

About the author

Garrett Morrison

When I was 10 or 11 years old, my dad gave me a copy of The World Atlas of Golf. That kick-started my obsession with golf architecture. I read as many books about the subject as I could find, filled a couple of sketch books with plans for imaginary golf courses, and even joined the local junior golf league for a summer so I could get a crack at Alister MacKenzie's Valley Club of Montecito. I ended up pursuing other interests in high school and college, but in my early 30s I moved to Pebble Beach to teach English at a boarding school, and I fell back in love with golf. Soon I connected with Andy Johnson, founder of Fried Egg Golf. Andy offered me a job as Managing Editor in 2019. At the time, the two of us were the only full-time employees. The company has grown tremendously since then, and today I'm thrilled to serve as the Head of Architecture Content. I work with our talented team to produce videos, podcasts, and written work about golf courses and golf architecture.
