about

In 1868, Leven Links was extended to an 18-hole design, playing beyond the Mile Dyke stone wall and towards the town of Lundin Links. At this time there were just 18 holes but four different golf clubs, three Leven and one Lundin. Leven members would start at the west end of the links, Lundin members from the east. Just after the turn of the century, the various golf clubs had grown to over 1,400 members between them, prompting the hiring of James Braid to build nine new holes. The new holes were placed inland, adjacent to the holes east of Mile Dyke, affording Lundin Golf Club its own 18-hole course.

Although nearly every hole plays parallel to one another, Lundin is packed full of interesting ground contours right up against the ocean, making for a splendid links golf experience. An old railway that ceased operation in the 1960s splits the course into two halves, with the most interesting links land and original holes on the southern, coastal parcel. This includes holes 1-5 and 15-18, while the rest of the course plays on more subtle terrain (as well as a large hillside). Nonetheless, there is excitement found in all corners of the design with many ditches crossing the lines of play, blind shots, and firm, fast linksy ground. The under-the-radar atmosphere makes this one of the most delightful stops in Fife for a proper links round.

Take Note…

Leven Template. The famous Leven template hole created by C.B. Macdonald and Seth Raynor is derived from the 16th hole at Lundin Links. This is one of the original holes from the 1868 design and plays as a short par 4. Modern golf equipment has diminished the hole’s strategy, but the concept and features are all still present and a joy to see firsthand.

Mile Dyke. The stone wall (or "dyke") between Leven and Lundin is older than both the courses it divides, dating back to the 18th century.
