Gil Hanse doesn't miss when it comes to marketing and salesmanship. Same cannot be said for his courses.

Muirfield Routing Harry Colt Old Tom Morris

It does have too many boring holes. I think Andy has it exactly right with Harding - the greens are just too flat to be interesting at the level they should be. I really enjoy the routing - it's a fantastic walk, has a nice pace, and it sure is gorgeous. But the issues with it are what they are. Thansk for the response - I agree with you!

Thank you. Harding Park is a good one! Along with Sonoma it's the only Muirfield routing I've actually played. I chose to omit it because 1) it has too many boring holes, and 2) no routing the club has used, either for regular play or tournaments, has the perimeter holes as the front 9 like Muirfield

Glad I'm not the only one on this block! Give me affordable with flaws/character vs pristine and expensive.

I appreciated the tie in to how Murfield's routing influenced other course routings.

My appreciation and interest in Australian golf course architecture has grown since you guys have been covering it recently. I loved the recap of course projects that have finished up and the ones that are slated for the remaining of the year. That was a really succinct way of putting all that info. I'm interested to see the David McClay Kidd course in WA when it's finished. What Mike DeVries has done and is doing in Michigan is amazing. I feel like he should get more attention. I'm on the Donald Ross side of blind shots when he stated "There is no reason why a golfer should be penalized for playing a good shot just because he cannot see where he is going". Not the biggest fan, unless they are thoughtfully done and barely used.

TPC Sawgrass also got ridiculed pretty hard when it made it's debut. I'm not saying that just because a course gets negative reviews on its debut that it will become a great course, and I think your points are valid, but when I think of the architect who designed this I have to imagine there is room for this course to become really good for majors. I don't see that path at the moment, but kinda trust that it may develop more.

Same. I consume everything he publicly writes and says, and he made it sound like it could be the best course he's ever done.Maybe they'll be a FEGC outing in 2026, fingers crossed!

Work will definitely be happening. We’ll see if it’s in a position where we’d be able to take a peek or if it’s too early!
