A New Home For Fried Egg Golf Club

A lot of Fried Egg Golf members found us because of how we talk and write about golf. The courses, the architects, the ideas, the history, the arguments worth having. We have always tried to inform, educate, and entertain, and for a long time that was the relationship. We made things, you read and watched and listened.

But somewhere along the way something else started happening. People found each other in the comments, in the replies, at our events, in the corners of social media where the same names kept showing up. A loose community formed. The Fried Egg Golf Club is what happened when we decided to give that community a place of its own.

What started as a group of people who loved talking about golf has grown into thousands of members who travel to play together, swap course recommendations, argue about routings, and turn strangers into the kind of friends you call when you're trying to fill a foursome on a Saturday morning. It is something we are endlessly proud of, and it is the part of this club that matters most to us.

Today we are introducing a new home for all of it: the Fried Egg Golf Club app. It is built mobile-first but offers a great desktop experience for the members who want to keep a tab open during the day.

We could walk through everything the app does. We are not going to. What matters more is who it is for. It is for the member who just moved to a new city and wants to find a regular game. It is for the architecture nerd who has spent years thinking about routings and green complexes and finally has a place to find others who want to go just as deep. It is for the threesome that needs a fourth for their standing weekend game and would rather find one through people who get it. It is for the golfer who loves the game more than just about anything, but now and then needs a place to talk about pizza, or records, or the show they cannot stop thinking about.

The app is built around four pillars: 1) A community forum for short posts, long essays, and everything in between, 2) Member-written course reviews, where a paragraph from someone who knows the game tells you more than a star rating ever could, 3) Meetups, both member hosted and organized by the Fried Egg Golf team, so the conversations that start online have somewhere to go, and 4) Direct and group messaging, so it is easy to stay in touch with the people you meet along the way.

Golf is at its best when you have people to share it with, places worth chasing, and a reason to keep showing up. We want the club to be the thing that helps our members find all three.

A note on what comes next: This is not a finish line for us. The app is a foundation, not a final product. We are going to keep building, keep improving, and keep listening. Our members have shaped this club from day one, and they will continue to shape where it goes. If something is not quite right, tell us. If there is a direction you want us to push, tell us. We are paying attention.
