Jim Furyk Gets Second Chance as U.S. Captain for 2027 Ryder Cup

Furyk's Ryder Cup record is less than stellar, both as a player and captain

Jim Furyk is getting his second chance.

On Friday, the PGA of America announced Furyk would captain the 2027 U.S. Ryder Cup team for the matches at Adare Manor, his second stint at the helm following an embarrassing 2018 showing in Paris when the Americans lost to the Europeans, 17.5-10.5.

Tiger Woods has been a sought-after candidate for the position for years, but the 15-time major champion removed himself from consideration in the wake of his latest car accident and arrest

Furyk has been involved in the biennial competition since his debut in 1997, but he hasn’t fared well over the years. In nine appearances as a player, Furyk boasts a 10-20-4 record, earning just 12 points in 34 matches. His 20 losses are the third most in U.S. history behind Woods (21) and Phil Mickelson (22).

Fried Egg Golf’s Brendan Porath and Kevin Van Valkenburg discussed the move and what it means for the U.S. team going forward as it looks to avoid a third-straight loss to the Europeans next fall.
