Paulie's Picks: 2025 Baycurrent Classic

That was the top five last week at the Sanderson Farms Championship, which illustrates the volatility and variability in results for FedEx Cup Fall events. From a betting perspective, that makes it very difficult to predict results and profit. That’s why I suggest making fewer bets per event and for smaller dollar amounts during the fall. 

If you thought last week was unpredictable, this week will likely be the same as players head to Japan for the Baycurrent Classic. This 78-player, no-cut field visits a first-time Tour host, Yokohama Country Club. If that wasn’t enough variability, remnants of a typhoon could bring heavy rain during the early stages of the event. With all that being said, I’m going to make one bet this week:

Hideki Matsuyama: Top 20, -120

Hideki Matsuyama got off to a hot start in 2025 with his win at the season-opening Sentry. Since then he has cooled off tremendously, which is why we are getting the reduced price for a top 20 in a field of only 78 players. However, his game has shown some form of late. In his last start at the BMW Championship, the DP World Tour’s flagship event, he finished 13th in a star-studded field, his best finish in any event since the Sentry. In a week where we have so many variables at play, I look to place my money on someone who I know will grind it out in potentially bad weather and not give up in front of his home country fans. Give me Hideki Matsuyama to finish top 20 this week at -120.
