Happy PGA Championship weekend, everyone. Not all of us at TFE are huge fans of the East Course at Oak Hill, but it’s safe to say we’re more excited about this year’s edition than we were about the event’s last visit to Rochester in 2013.
Club TFE housekeeping
It was a busy week for us at The Fried Egg as we prepared for the PGA, put on an event at Lawsonia Links, and started a big new project (stay tuned). All of that got us behind schedule on our Club TFE course profiles. We’ll make it up to you by posting two profiles in a future week.
Your weekly question
We’ve done a lot of writing and talking about Oak Hill lately. Today, we want to throw it to you.
A pile of Oak Hill acorns discussion prompts:
Judging from the first day of action at the 2023 PGA, what skill set does Oak Hill appear to reward?
A lot of commentators noted that the run-up to this major was somewhat sleepy. Why do you think that was?
What do you think of the rough at Oak Hill? Do you believe—as many people responsible for championship setups do—that thick rough places a premium on driving accuracy?
Oak Hill’s bunker faces are steep and penal. Do you enjoy how they look and play?
A detail we’ve been mulling over: how do you feel about the separated short-grass area on the par-3 15th hole?

The 15th hole at Oak Hill
