Awesome interview Joseph. It's so refreshing to get straight-forward and in-depth content like this. I am not sure if the American side has an equivalent to Dodo, but if not, we need to find that person quickly.

Pga Tour Kapalua Hawaii Water Shortage
October 9, 2025
I visited Maui for the first time in early September. Unfortunately my tee times on the Plantation and Bay courses were cancelled. I went over there one night and visited the clubhouse for dinner. It was sad to see everything burnt out (although I would've loved to have played it in baked out conditions). Plantation Course was getting water on the greens though, it seemed like the Bay course across the street wasn't getting any water. I ended up playing Wailea and both Ka'anapali courses which are 10 minutes down the road. Sad thing about all of this is that the other courses nearby aren't having these issues.

Would love to see Fox Chapel make the list. Played it a few weeks ago and would relish the opportunity to do that again. Also hope Moraine ends up back in the list as I live a few miles away and didn’t get the chance this year. Also how many double digit handicaps attend your events? I took a decade off from golf and am working hard on getting back down but being over forty with a young kid leaves me not a lot of time to play and practice. I’m a 15 handicap and feel a little self conscious playing with scratch and plus handicaps from over 6500 yards.

1. Having played there four years ago, that picture is heart breaking. Kapalua may not be in any Top 100 anymore, but it is an experience unlike any other in golf (elevation changes like Augusta, views unlike anywhere I’ve been). 2. WSJ just wrote that Musk’s AI data center in Memphis uses as much water as all the residences in Memphis. Will pictures like this one become more common if AI data centers require more and more water.

Is Pasatiempo the shining example of overcoming water shortages? Maybe it is another highly specific, local situation, but I know they have a story to tell.

That parting quote from Coore reminds me that I haven't come across any references to the associates who built Rodeo Dunes. Can you provide, Matt? I'm not initially persuaded by the aesthetic of leaving sharper cuts and fills and opting against tying them in like previous work, particularly in such a rugged landscape. While I enjoy the geometrical quirks of places like Ballybunion and Lahinch for that, my appreciation comes from recognizing the more rudimentary tools available a century ago. Going that direction of "messiness" today could be construed as backward step away from refinement. Excited to see the completed course in time!

I'm curious - what add on tee times at other Chicago areas courses were available with the Skokie event, if any? I was between that and the Kingsley one and ultimately chose Kingsley because the add on opportunities are typically awesome.
