Club TFE housekeeping
In case you missed it, we announced our first monthly Club TFE hangout and Q&A. It will take place next Wednesday, January 25, at 1:30 p.m. ET. Check out all the details here. If there’s a topic you’d like us to cover, drop it in the comments.
Your Friday question
Here’s what some pro golfers said about PGA West, this week’s PGA Tour venue, back in 1987:
Roger Maltbie: “I would say 90 percent of the players were upset with PGA West. I heard a couple say it was okay. I heard one say he liked it. Everyone else I talked to has told me he didn’t like it.”
Ben Crenshaw: “There is no way I can have fun on this course.”
Tom Watson: “I’m sick and tired of these courses. It requires you to execute shots that no sane golfer should be expected to play.”
Times have changed. The past seven winners of the American Express (formerly known as the Bob Hope Classic) have shot an average score of 66.3 in the final round.
That brings us to our question: Which design elements do you think would get under the skin of today’s PGA Tour pros?
“The American Express” could never take the place of “the Bob Hope” as a tournament name. Thank you for your continued support of The Fried Egg.
