Weekend Chat: Seeing v. Testing

How do you view the role of a PGA Tour venue given the demands of the modern men's professional game

Ladies and gents,

I hope you all receive a hearty "Happy Friday" message from someone in the office today. That's always a cheap thrill. What's not a cheap thrill, as in I am going to make you work for it, is today's Weekend Chat. I'm only asking for an opinion, but I think today's question is something you all can chew on a bit. Drop on down to "The Q" as my friends in Myrtle Beach call it and drop me a note. Please and thank you.

Registration is open for our final full-field event at Old Barnwell. A few spots are also remaining at our events at Essex County Country Club, Lawsonia Links, and Skokie Country Club. Visit our Event Hub for more information and to secure your spots.

Lottery entries for our 2026 Scottish Highlands FEGC Trip are open through the weekend. The 2026 SW Ireland FEGC Trip lottery entries will open on May 14. Please reach out if you have any questions!

Those waiting on their Red Rooster glove from the 2024 member gift will begin to receive them next week. Those are arriving at Red Rooster's headquarters as we speak and as fast as they can turn them around they will be in your hands.

This Week's Question(s)

Philadelphia Cricket Club is undoubtedly a wonderful members course and I think many of us here are excited to watch the action this weekend. But the course is clearly not able to genuinely test the length of modern men's professional golfers. My question, does seeing a professional event overpower a style of architecture that many of us revere take away any excitement you feel in seeing the course on TV?

Fun fact, Elle King's dad is Rob Schneider. Don't tell me that Weekend Chat never taught you anything.

About the author

Will Knights

Golf was a big part of my upbringing as I grew up with a PGA Professional as a dad. I went to the course with him in the morning, helped out in the pro shop, caddied, and ultimately played golf in college before helping out in the early days of Fried Egg. While I’ve been involved in many different aspects of our organization over the years, today you’ll largely find me at our events and helping our membership as our Community Manager. And while I love this position, my dream job will always be starting shortstop for the Chicago Cubs.
