Yes, sir! Masters week is finally here! This may be one of the most anticipated and watched Masters of all time. There are so many storylines and players coming into this event in good form. This year’s field is one of the smallest in recent history with less than 90 players. Note: after 36 holes, the field will be cut to the low 50 and ties or anyone within ten shots of the lead.

As many of you already know, DraftKings has large contests for all of the majors. Once again, they are offering the Millionaire Maker which is $20 per entry and has a $1,000,000 first place prize. To have a chance to contend for the first place prize, we need to understand that the contest will have over 205,000 entries so there will be a lot of roster overlap and duplicate teams. Here are a few strategies to use to have a better chance at a unique lineup:

Spend less than $49,500 of your $50,000 budget. Almost everyone feels compelled to spend all their money. There is plenty of value this year and leaving money on the table won’t hurt you and provide a unique lineup.
Make your lineup of 6 players and then take out the two players who you think will be highly owned and replace them with lesser-owned options.
If making multiple lineups for this contest, consider completely fading a few of the top players such as Tiger who I expect to be 25-35% owned.

DraftKings:

Dustin Johnson $11,400

I expect DJ to be the lowest owned amongst the top tier of players. With his price being so high, I expect people to choose cheaper options who are in better form such as Thomas, Spieth or McIlroy. DJ has finished fourth and sixth in his last two appearances at Augusta. I’m disregarding his less than stellar play at the match play and expect him to turn it on this week. DJ provides immense upside for DraftKings as he can make birdies and eagles in bunches.

Hideki Matsuyama $8,400

Matsuyama had an injured wrist earlier in the year which I think will prevent some people from choosing him this week. From all reports, he is back healthy and competed in back to back weeks at Bay Hill and the Dell Match Play. Hideki has finished in the top 11 in the last three Masters. His towering accurate approaches are a perfect fit for Augusta.

Paul Casey $8,800

I expect Casey to be one of the highest owned players of the week. He comes into this event in great form and has finished in the top six in the last three Masters. He leads the Tour in strokes gained approach in his last 10 events gaining 39 shots over the field. I expect him to plod his away around the course and finish in the top 10 this week.

One-and-Done

This is going to be a very interesting week for One-and-Done leagues. There are a plethora of options to choose from. Choosing the correct player can vault you up the standings with first place collecting nearly two million dollars!!! Here are a few options to consider this week:

Jordan Spieth

Spieth’s third-place finish in Houston will make him the highest owned player in most leagues this week. You can’t argue with his history at Augusta (a win, two 2nds, and an 11th). He has been hitting the ball great all year. Spieth led the field in strokes gained approach this past week gaining 8.7 shots. He managed a third-place finish even though he lost over three shots on the greens. If he can find any semblance of his putter from a few years ago, he will be in the mix on the back nine on Sunday.

Phil Mickelson

Mickelson has won the green jacket multiple times and comes into this week playing the best he has in years. In his last four stroke play events (before Houston), he finished no worse than sixth and was victorious at WGC Mexico. His iron play has been solid during that stretch gaining over 15 shots from the field over those four events.

Justin Rose

Justin Rose has been thinking about only one thing since last year’s defeat to Sergio Garcia. He wants to win this week desperately. He has been preparing and structuring his whole year around Augusta. In his last seven starts at Augusta, he has only finished outside of the top 14 once. He has finished in the top 10 in 13 of his last 16 events. Rose might be celebrating his second major come Sunday.
