Gotts is a must. Farmstead is the only other of those that I’ve been to but it’s great as well

The rollback proposal on the table has nothing to do with spin. Essentially, they're just making the test robot swing faster while keeping the max yardage in place. A ball could, in theory, spin less while still meeting the new standard.

Thanks Beau! This is our first time to Napa so very much looking forward to it. Can’t beat great golf, food, and wine. We are staying at the Archer in Napa and have some dinners lined up already because I was told reservations can go quickly. Bottega, Bouchon, and Charter Oak. Lunch is more up in the air each day but would love some recs. Some places I have saved are Mustard’s, Gott’s, Rutherford Grill, Brasswood, Farmstead. The options seem a little overwhelming ha. Thinking of doing something after golf in Calistoga if you had a particular winery you love. We both are into cabs, wife into rosé and sparkling as well but we are also open to trying anything. Will’s rec for Susie’s sounds awesome too. I love a good dive bar if I can drag my wife in one.

In his newsletter today, Shackelford recommended the back row of the hole 16 grandstand (right of the green). Can see all of hole 11 and a couple of other tees and greens.

Thanks Will! The time they gave me is 10:30 so will take up the bulk of the day. We are staying in Napa but thinking I’ll have the wife meet me in Calistoga after to try to squeeze something in before dinner.

Thank you! Both of these are on my list of possibilities. Good to know I was headed in right direction. And my wife is very much into bubbles so that will likely have to be a stop.

Rahm was grumpy all week at the 2023 PGA about what happened any time he missed a fairway.
The two main tournaments prior to this I recall Rory taking this same, "You can bash it anywhere and figure it out" attitude were the 23 PGA (Oak Hill) and last year's Truist (Philly Cricket) and he had top 10 finishes in both but was never a contender and frankly seemed to spend a lot of both those tournaments with 45 foot birdie putts because that was the best he could do after driving it in the rough.
But there's no strategy guys, by all means hit it anywhere.

They all say trees provide strategy, but then demand free drops from grandstands if offline. If we make grandstands not TIO, well then we have the 'trees' they want for strategy.
Coming around to this idea that you can't be pro-TIO and also anti-tree removal. Functionally doing same things

Cody, if you want any other Napa related recommendations let me know. We live in SF and have been up there plenty of times so I'm happy to share. Just let me know what you're into.

We had a couple recs in here: https://www.thefriedegg.com/guides/san-francisco-bay-area-road-trip
As for other things to do, Calistoga (as Will mentioned) is probably the closest town that has some nice non-golf things to do. The town is famous for its hot springs. If you need a place to stay, Indian Springs is awesome and Doctor Wilkinson's is a really nice more affordable option. And if you want to blow it out go to Solage ($$$$) but worth it.
Calistoga is also at the far north end of the Napa valley. If you're into big red wines there are a lot of really great producers up there that make a cab that will knock your socks off. I can give you specific recommendations if you want but most of the places along the Silverado Trail are all going to be pretty cool.
Congrats on landing the spot. Enjoy it!

I'll second that. Far and away the best producer of sparkling wine in the area, and it's up north near Middletown and Brambles.

If you do bubbles, do Schramsberg. Nothing else is worth it according to wine people I trust

I can't offer any course recs, but I will follow Will with Napa recs.
Mayacamas is an incredible visit. Beautiful winery and even better wine. The Hill Family Secret Garden Tour is really cool too. Their wines are so-so, but the garden is very cool to see.

Rahm's quote was maddening. He seems to be under the impression that after Ross finished the course he walked down both sides of each fairway planting trees.

Cody, you'll love it. Such a fun place. Tom, Dianna, John, Greg, whoever is up there that day will take great care of you. Cool that it happens to be on your birthday too!
I don't have too many course specific recommendations other than listen to your caddie on the blind shots, especially No. 5. You should definitely have at least one of Chef's cookies he makes every day. They're incredible. And take a shower afterwards. It's a good one.
LOCAL RECOMMENDATIONS
Hardesters Market - If you happen to find yourselves in Middletown and in need of anything, visit Hardesters Market in the center of town. There isn't much in the town but that grocery store is wonderful and has everything you need.
Calistoga Inn - On the southwest end of Calistoga is the Calistoga Inn. You can actually stay in the hotel if you'd like — somewhat of a hostel — but their food and drink is wonderful. Their bar is particularly great with some pizza and bar food.
Calistoga Roastery - There is very little in the way of coffee in Calistoga but the Roastery does a good job. They have a great breakfast sandwich as well.
Susie's Bar - If you need something to take the edge off at the end of the day, Susie's is a fun dive bar in Calistoga. It's not going to hold up to a winery but it's a good spot nonetheless.

I’m not sure how the grandstands are set up but somewhere around 2 and 7 green is a great spot. Very centrally located and overlooks several holes.

Can we just make the driver head smaller and less forgiving - this feels so crazy if true. Cam said all his spin numbers are lower with this ball, shouldn’t the rollback ball spin more? What are we even doing smh.
