Will anyone be in St.Andrews from Oct 4-9, 2026?

My luck with the August lottery for The Old Course tee times is unfortunately as successful as my lottery entries for Masters Tickets. So at 54, I finally decided to give it a better shot before my back stops being able to hit decent shots, so I just booked a weeklong AirBnB in St.Andrews and will enter the daily singles-queue. Worse case, it's a wonderful week with my wife and some rounds on the other Links Trust courses or somewhere nearby. My question to the broader group.

Is anyone else planning to be over there at that time. I ask because it would be nice to get a game together, but also it would be helpful to have a second shot at tee-times each day since a single can't be in the daily lottery (on 2, 3, or 4). So if you're going to be there and are willing to pair up on the daily lottery entry, please let me know (on here, or bgracely@gmail.com)

Chocolate Drop: Kingsley Club's Second Course Under Construction

Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw are building a second 18-hole golf course at Kingsley Club, the Northern Michigan getaway where Mike DeVries designed a highly regarded course in 2001. Judging from this video, construction appears to be in its early phases, with tree clearing but not much discernible shaping having taken place. The property abuts DeVries's course from the 12th green to the 14th green and extends down to Highway 113, near the town of Kingsley.

We haven't yet heard when the course is expected to open, but based on the progress so far, we would assume it won't be ready for regular play until at least 2028. We also aren't sure how access to the course will fit within Kingsley Club's current membership model.

There's no doubt, though, that it will be a striking and much-discussed course.

Any spots on Saturday 5/23 in the Bay Area

Looking for a spot on Saturday this weekend, 5/23. A little picky about the date, but flexible on time and distance from SF! In the city and willing to drive.

31, not interested in fighting, willing to pay a guest fee, 2.2 HC (and unfortunately climbing)

Cross-Country Road Trip - Course Reccomendations

Hey everyone!

I am departing on the cross country road trip of a lifetime in a few short weeks and hoping to squeeze in a lot of golf. I'm funemployed until I start grad school in the fall, so hoping to make the most of this chunk of time.

I've got some great spots lined up already, but really curious to hear if the FEGC community has recs that would otherwise slip under the radar. My route is as follows:

DMV area -> Cleveland -> Chicago -> Des Moines -> Valentine, NE (Prairie Club) -> Denver, CO (Common Ground) -> Park City, UT -> Springdale, UT -> Las Vegas -> LA -> SF via the Pacific Coast Highway, ending the trip with a round at Northwood Golf Club.

If there's any can't miss publicly accessible golf or local gems along the way, any and all advice/recs would be very much appreciated!

Feedback on Amateur Golf Hole and Course Designs

Part of my nerd-ing out on architecture is creating custom plots and course designs using pencil and paper and now primarily PGA 2K25 course designer. Would this be the right place to share images and designs and get feedback on such things? Not just for me for all amateur designers.

FEGC Course Profile College Tour?

Played the University of Michigan course yesterday and had me thinking about university courses as an fun category of publilc golf (some more public than others), often with some very storied architecture. I know Yale has been profiled, but I'd say there's still a deep bench of courses that could be profiled. Time for a college road trip this fall during football season? Tailgates n Tees

Courses that come to mind as profile worthy:

University of Michigan (Alister Mackenzie)

Radrick Farms (very early Pete Dye design)

OSU Scarlet Course (Alister Mackenzie)

Rawls Course at Texas Tech (Tom Doak)

Warren Course at Notre Dame (Coore and Crenshaw)

Purdue Kampen-Costler (Pete Dye)

Stanford (George Thomas and Billy Bell Jr.)

Any other courses for the docket?

Guest Ballot Selected at Brambles

My wife and I are going to Napa for my 40th at the end of June and so I entered the ballot with hopes of playing there on my actual birthday and found out today that it was selected! I could not be more pumped. Brambles has intrigued me since I saw the All Grass Is Local piece and read more about James Duncan’s vision. Any advice, tips, or general insight would be appreciated as I’m sure this is the best place to come for such things.

BEST SPOTS TO WATCH GOLF AT ARONIMINK

Headed out to THE MINK on Saturday. Wondering if anyone has thoughts on where the best viewing will be. My buddy is bringing his 1.5 year old son so ideally would be able to post up somewhere, but also open to wandering a bit.

If anyone else is going to be walking around, would love to say what’s up!

NEW - September 2026 FEGC Minnesota Road Trip

Hello all,

I mentioned this in our Sunday email this week, but we have a fresh slate of new events we are excited to unveil for fall of this year. Details for our Brambles, Wild Spring Dunes, and Louisiana trips will be announced next week, but today I want to quickly talk about our new Minnesota Road Trip. This is a Donald Ross special, featuring four amazing designs that are all exceedingly different.

Dates: September 20-24, 2026

Registration: May 20, 2026 at Noon ET - Registration Page

Courses: Northland Country Club, White Bear Yacht Club, Woodhill Country Club, and Minneapolis Golf Club

Background:

We hosted a Minneapolis trip last fall and decided the area needed more attention. So this year, we put together a variation of our 2025 trip and spiced it up with more Donald Ross focus.

White Bear Yacht Club is one of my favorite places in the country, so I started there. It's an amazing golf course with some wild topography and the dinner we are able to host in their Commodore Room is out of this world. Tuesday, done.

Then, I looked around at what other Ross courses we hadn't seen in Minneapolis and settled on Minneapolis Golf Club. Located just west of town, MGC is overlooked because of its Interlachen and Hazeltine shaped neighbors but it offers some terrific architecture and some great Ross greens. Boom, Thursday, done.

While searching around the west side of town, I noticed Woodhill Country Club, a Ross design that I knew very little about. Sure enough, Brian Schneider was doing work on the club and they are reopening after a full restoration. Brian has done some amazing work in recent years and the opportunity to see a new one of his restoration projects tickled my fancy. Wednesday, done.

Finally, there has always been a calling to make the trip up to Duluth to see Northland Country Club. According to many people I trust, it is an amazing place with equally wild topography to White Bear and even better views. Overlooking Lake Superior, this is an amazing venue that very few have made the trip to see. For Ross enthusiasts, or really just golf enthusiasts, this felt like a place we needed to see. So that goes Monday to begin the trip.

All together, this is four days of some amazing golf course architecture featuring Ross in different stages of his career, and the current courses are in different stages of their lives as well. Some are coming off fresh restorations, others are working on long-term projects, and others still are as pure as they were the day they opened. It's a trip I am exceptionally excited to embark on and I cannot wait for the group to join in.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Anti Rollback - potentially controversial

Are there any folks who are into course architecture who don’t support ball or equipment rollback? For me I don’t really understand the point. This “ issue” ( if we can even accept there is one, which I’m not sure exists in the first place), solely affects elite amateurs and professionals I have never once heard an amateur golf say the ball goes too far or that golf is too easy.

As some background, I’m a +2 handicap who plays in a lot of tournaments. I hit it roughly 300. I receive 0 dollars from Titleist and currently play a TP5 golf ball. To me, golf is about the lowest score winning, which remains true if an event is played from 6000 yards or 9000 yards.

Winter Park Progress

Spent a couple days in Winter Park watching Rhebb & Johns rebuild greens and bunkers after the recent loss of their greens. Greens look incredible. They’ll go with temp greens for most of the summer. Will be a must play after grow in.
